Cleaning Strategy Cures Mess Stress

What to Do With the Monthly, Yearly, and On-Demand Tasks

Got a hanging calendar? Because these cleaning tasks are less frequent, post those on a calendar that’s visible to everyone in the household and everyone will be reminded to do it. Simple.

For the On Demand tasks, they’re based on condition. If something happens do this… It’s trivial and you must have a sense when something requires your attention immediately. However some people in your family or household may not have the intuitive sense, so you might just post a reminder beside your weekly tracker; as shown in photo.

Involve Everyone by Making it Fun!

Everyone that shares a space has equal responsibility to do their part in keeping it clean; this goes for homes and offices alike.  The weekly cleaning chore scheduler is more than just a cleaning list it   becomes a cleaning strategy for everyone on keeping the dwelling pristine.

No one likes the mundane repetitive task of cleaning, but add a challenge or even competition with an end reward and things get spiced up.

Using a word processor,  make a three columned table with the headings “name” “chore” “date”. This table will extend down the page with as many rows as you can fit. Give it the title of “Cleaning Tracker”; print it out and place it in close proximity of the Weekly Cleaning Scheduler.

Here’s the fun part…

Now when someone completes a task they write their name, the chore, and the date on the tracker; this effectively gives them “one point”.

At the end of the month (or week) you tally the score; who did the most cleaning wins. The winner is rewarded by the “lazy losers” with something special.

For kids, you may not want to hurt any feelings and you really want their efforts rewarded. So, you can do something like give them a treat for every 5 completed chores; or smack them a good one if they only did two; it’s really up to your parenting style.

This cleaning strategy also works as a visual demonstration on who’s doing their part and can provide a remedy for some members of the household who feel like they do everything and take little notice at what everyone else does. Or it may help those who don’t do anything, to realize the efforts of others and encouraging participation.

Give it shot and tell us how it worked for you. Leave your comments about how you implemented it, how you improved it or tell us about your own personal cleaning strategy.
